The last post about the Soi 7 Biergarten was mistaken. I took this information from someone in Bangkok, but it turns out he meant the small beer garden on Soi 8. So the Soi 7 Biergarten is alive and kicking, thank goodness

Soi 7 Biergarten Closed!
An era may have passed. The Soi 7 Biergarten has closed. Supposedly, it will open up later this month again, but anyone familiar with the Bagnkok scene will not hold his breath. It may open back up soon, it may be later. And if it opens back up, it may or may not be the same.
The Biergarten was my favorite place to find a pretty young thing on a lazy Sunday afternoon for an hour or two of fun before evening, or to go at night to watch sports (I watched the last Olympics there.)
The girls at Soi 7 are great. They provide good service for 1,000 baht, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. I have nver really gone there at night, so I can't say how the night scene is. But I have met some very nice girls there.
I hope it will re-open in its current disposition. I will post again as soon as I find out.

How to Meet Non-Pros
(Just got back from a trip to Argentina--this is an Asian blog, but wow, what a good time there!)
The bars in the Philippines and Thailand, the massage joints in Tokyo, the pink light districts in Korea, all are great for meeting willing partners. But I do get asked how to meet "regular" girls. And yes, some girls do hang out where they can meet foreigners. White Beach in Okinawa is a great example of that. But other places, which have a reputation for being able to meet non-pros, really aren't that good. Spasso's in Bangkok, has that reputation, but in reality, almost all the girls there are expensive free-lancers.
Everywhere I go in Asia, I find non-pros (oh, I like to use the pros, too). How? By writing them first on the internet. In Thailand, i had great luck with Matematcher.com, but now that is defunct. So I switched over to Adult Friendfinder. The nice thing about Adult Friendfinder is that 75% of the women there just want a good time. And I have met a number of couples who want to play with a foreigner. Surprisingly, in each case, it was to have the wife have sex with a foreigner while the husband just watches. (Well, in one case in Manila, the husband could no longer get an erection because of surgery, so he was just giving his wife an opportunity to get laid.) I have been very successful with MateMatcher and Adult Friendfinder. in Japan, Thailand, Korea, the Philippines, and China.
OK, there is a difference. Unless you are a young good-looking stud, you might not get responses from most of the girls you select if you only select young babes, especially in Japan and Korea. But if you are older (as I am) and you select girls a little older or couples, then you should get great results. But in the Philippines most of all, and in Thailand as well, many more young girls will respond to an older guys e-mails.
Over the last year, I have hooked up with 6 couples in Asia and 16 girls through Adult Friendfinder. It actually could be more, but when I am in Thailand, I regularly spend the night four girls (3 from AFF and one from MateMatcher) so I don't have much time to meet the new ones.
If you are really looking for a girlfriend, you can find them in AFF as well (you can tell by the ad if they just want to play or are looking for something more. However, if you are lookign for that, you might want to try AsianFriendFinder or FilipinoFriendfinder. I really have not had any experience with the first, but the second one is great. Ihave a buddy who married a real nice girl through that site.
The good thing about the Friendfinder network is that you can join for free. If you are going to send a million e-mails and agressively pursue hooking up, you should join, but the basic ad is free.
There are more sites like Worldwidelove.net, and if you can speak the language, chat rooms abound. But my best advice for finding non-pros is to get onlien before you go and arrange to meet upon your arrival.

Thermae Coffee Shop--A Shift in Customers?
For those unaware of Bangkok's Thermae Coffee Shop, this has been a prime place since the Vietnam War for falangs (Westerners) to meet Thai girls. Thermae has moved its location across the street, and there has been a greater emphasis on independent pros over the years, but the core of putting together Thai girls and falangs has remained a constant.
I have been in Thermae twice over the last week, and I am seeing a trend which has been developing over the last few years. This could spell the end of Thermae for white or black western men.
Much as the Grace Hotel has turned into a mecca (pun intended) for Arabic men seeking Thai girls and as a consequence, driving Westerners to seek other areas, Thermae is turning more and more Japanese. In the past, Japanese men have tended to higher-class night clubs or to their own street off Silom Road, there has been a growing tendency for Japanese men to "slum" it in what heretofore have been Western hangouts.
For some time now, there has been a small number of Japanese (and a few Taiwan and Korean) men coming to Thermae. They have tended to congregate at the tables in the back, and girls (usually younger and prettier) have been interested only in them. The rest of Thermae, along the center bar and the booths along the sides, have been for Westerners. The girls who would go with them would stay in these areas.
Lately, though, there have been more and more Japanese crowding in, mostly young men. These men are now spreading out along the booths, taking them over. And their age along with their ethnic background make them a far more appealing choice to a majority of the girls than the typical Western punter.
On both of my last two forays into Thermae, I would say that over half of the girls would not even talk to a Western man. Most broke out into eager smiles whenever a young Japanese pseudo-punker with spiked hair and torn jeans walked by.
Change is inevitable. The Grace Hotel changed hands, so-to-speak, and it looks as if Thermae might be going down the same road. Soi 7 seems to still be primarily a Western hangout, but if Thermae becomes a place where Westerners are either unwelcome or at least not encouraged, what will take its place?
I would appreciate any comments or opinions others might have on the subject.

No real post here. I just wanted to share a photo of a lovely Filipina on the resort island of Boracay.

Patpong, Nana Plaza, and Soi Cowboy
Bangkok has three major entertainment areas as well as a scattering of other establishments: Patpong Road, Nana Plaza, and Soi Cowboy. Here is a general description of each (more detailed of each area will be done later.)
Patpong Road is perhaps the most famous of the three. Located between Silom and Surowong Roads next to the Saladaeng Skytrain station, it is easily accessible and quite popular with tourists. Touts will approach any falang (foreigner) at all hours offering “massage” service, but the real action does not start until later. Around 4:00 PM each day, vendors will pull stands and products out of bins and set up along Silom and in the middle of Patpong. When set up, these stalls, which offer everything from clothing to handicrafts to cd’s to watches, passage down Patpong can be rather crowded. Along the edge of the street are the bars. Each bar has its own touts who extol either the drink prices, the beauty of its dancers, or the sexual acts which can be viewed within.
Generally speaking, Patpong is crowded, hectic, dirty and commercial. While worth a gander for first-timers to Thailand just for the experience. However, for a good sexual or titillating experience, pass it up. The girls in the bar are among the most lackadaisical in Thailand, and the massage parlors offered are sorry, over-priced affairs.
As a note, one block back towards the Sky Train station is another road without stalls and with girls in gowns in front of a large number of bars. Unless you are Asian, do not bother. These bars cater to the Japanese market, and non-Asians are not served.
(photo from The girls of Nana Plaza)
Nana Plaza is located off Sukhumvit Road on Soi 4 near the Nana Plaza Skytrain station. Actually called Nana Entertainment Plaza, it is a three-story building with an enclosed courtyard. The entire building and courtyard are full of bars. Most are of the go-go type with female dancers, but a few feature ladyboys. There is one pub (Woodstock) and perhaps the best burgers in Bangkok in the first grill in the center of the courtyard.
Nana Plaza is far less hectic than Patpong, and the girls tend to have more fun. Still somewhat commercial, they can never-the-less let their hair down and have fun. If you are lucky enough to be there during a holiday, such as Songkran (in early April) the girls can really let loose and have fun. Nana is a good destination merely to watch dancers or to go with a group of guys.
Soi Cowboy is further down Sukhumvit just past the Asoke Skytrain station (connecting Asoke Road and Soi 23). Soi Cowboy is about 300 yards long and has maybe 45 bars. Soi Cowboy tends to be cheaper than Nana or Patpong, and the scene less hectic. The bars are less pushy as are the girls. While a few bars until recently had a small amount of nudity, these now seem to toe-the-line, and skimpy costumes, bikinis, or lingerie are the norm.
Soi Cowboy is the destination of choice for most falangs living in Bangkok. It is great for a quick beer, for an entertaining night out, or to find a girl for the night.
Nightlife is not limited to these three areas. Between Soi Cowboy and Nana are places like Eden, Thermae Coffee Shop, and Lolitas. On Ratchadapisek Road are a cluster of high end massage parlors. And even in Pin Klao, there are places like Valentines. Future posts will discuss specific places as well as each of the above three destinations in detail.
